RHINOPLASTY
What is
Rhinoplasty?
The nose is a prominent facial feature, which is why it usually
determines the overall attractiveness of a person’s
face. A nose out of proportion and misshapen—whether
in frontal or profile view—can be distracting.
Rhinoplasty
is a plastic
surgical procedure that
re-shapes the outside of the nose to
provide better balance with the rest of the face. It involves
correcting deformities by removing, re-arranging, or re-shaping the
bone and cartilage. Not only does this surgical procedure improve the
physical appearance of the nose, but it also improves the breathing
passages that reduce nasal stuffiness and sinus headaches.
Risks on
Rhinoplasty
Just like any other surgical procedure, there is a possibility of
complications such as infection, bleeding, or a reaction to anesthesia.
Patients can minimize these risks by following the surgeon’s
instruction before and after the procedure.
Small burst blood vessels that appear as tiny red spots on the
skin’s surface may be visible after the Rhinoplasty surgery.
Most of the time, these are minor. But sometimes, it can become
permanent. No visible scars occur when
Rhinoplasty is performed
inside the nose. However, when the procedure calls for the narrowing of
flared nostrils or an open approach, small scars may appear on the base
of the nose. As a result of sculpturing the nasal bones through an
external technique, other scars around the bridge of the nose may
appear.
Second procedures may be carried out, but it rarely happens. Even
though a corrective surgery may be required, it is just minor most of
the time. This case is very unpredictable so take your chances with a
highly skilled plastic
surgeon.

Frequently Asked Questions
Question:
Who is
a good candidate for Rhinoplasty?
A: As long as a person is in good health and has realistic expectations
on the operation, any man or woman can undergo Rhinoplasty.
Question:
Is Rhinoplasty
done for cosmetic reasons only?
No. Rhinoplasty
can also help improve breathing passages and reduce nasal stuffiness
and sinus headaches besides merely improving the nose’s
physical appearance.
Question:
Will visible scars form after the operation?
If Rhinoplasty
is performed from inside the nose, no visible scarring will occur.
Otherwise, only small incisions will be made during the operation so
the resulting scars will be hidden in the natural skin fold at the base
of the patient’s nose.
Question:
How
long will it take for me to recover after Rhinoplasty?
It would normally take the patient about one to two weeks to recover
after the procedure has been carried out. Normal activities
may be resumed after two to three weeks.
