About
Breast Surgery
and Breast Procedures
One
of the most important assets of women is their breasts.
They not only
produce
milk that is best consumed by their babies, but also add figure, body contour,
and
shape to their bodies. However, not all breasts
are
created equal. Some
are
big, while others are flat. Some are round, while others are pointed.
And while
there are some that are uplifted, others are sagging.
Fortunately,
advancement in science and technology now allow us to have our breasts
enhanced
according to our needs and desires through breast
surgery
and breast
procedures. Whether
enhancing or restoring the human breasts,
the
primary aim
of breast surgery
is improving the symmetry of the
mammary glands while
enhancing
their natural shape and contour.
Breast
Augmentation
Breast
augmentation is a cosmetic
surgery
that aims to enlarge or enhance the
shape of
the breast.
Often performed to women who are not
gifted with a chesty
front, breast augmentation
involves
insertion of silicone bag (or prosthesis)
either in
the area under the breast called submammary or under the breast
and
chest
muscle called subpectoral. The silicone bag is then filled with saline
solution
or salt water. The prosthesis gives the breast a fuller and improved
appearance, better contour, and more cleavage as it increases the cup
size.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia
is a health condition where firm breast gland tissues form in males,
making
them look like they have breasts
similar to women.
Possibly present on
one or
both breasts,
gynecomastia
involves
development of breast
tissues
directly
under the nipple, usually measuring less than one and one-half inches
across.
This condition makes the breast of males soft and tender.
While
some boys and even older men have fatty chests that make it look like
they have breasts,
this shouldn’t be
mistakenly thought as gynecomastia.
This condition,
on the other hand, is called pseudogynecomastia
or false
gynecomastia.
Breast
Reconstruction
Breast
reconstruction is a
surgical procedure that aims to rebuild
the shape
of the breasts
after a mastectomy.
This operation could not bring back the
actual breast
of a woman. In fact,
reconstructed breasts do not have natural
sensation. However, breast
reconstruction produces an
outcome that
looks very
much like a breast.
In
this breast procedure,
the breast
mound is formed by using implants or
tissues
that come from the belly, buttocks, or the back. Silicone implants are
sacs
filled with silicone gel or salt water. Breast
reconstruction
involve
any of
the following: adding a nipple, modifying the opposite breast to match
the
other, or changing the size or shape of the breast.
Breast
Nipple
Reduction
Breast
nipple reduction surgery is
a cosmetic breast
procedure used to reduce
the nipple
size. In some
surgical centers, it includes reshaping of the nipple
to
make it proportional to the breast.
In this cosmetic
surgery, small
incisions
in the nipple
are made to remove excess tissue. Local
or general
anesthesia may
be used to numb the area before the operation takes place. Taking only
about an
hour to complete, nipple
reduction surgery is
generally being performed
to
women who feel embarrassed about their large nipples
and want to boost
their
self-esteem.
