ARM
LIFT / BRACHIOPLASTY
What
is Arm Lift?
Arm
tissue relaxes with
age, gravity, and weight loss. The drooping of
skin is due to the stretching of the arm’s anchoring system
and
loss of supporting fat volume. Arm
Lift can remove your
arm’s excess tissue and reduce the
circumference
of your upper arm. Also known as Brachioplasty,
this cosmetic
procedure
involves the removal of excess skin from incisions along the inner arm.
The incisions are placed where the tissue can be best tightened and at
the same time well hidden. This procedure can restore firmness and tone
to your upper arms.
The type of Brachioplasty
performed by your surgeon depends on the
location and amount of your excess skin. An Axillary Brachioplasty
or Mini Arm
Tuck is done if
excess
hanging skin is located within two inches from the armpit. A Standard Brachioplasty
or Standard Arm
Lift
is done if the excess skin extends like a “Bat
Wing” from the armpit to the elbow, removing the arm flab
completely.
Risks on
Arm Lift
Every
surgical procedure
involves a certain amount of risk and Arm
Lift
is no exception. Some of
the possible complications include change in sensation, bleeding,
infection, skin sensitivity, skin contour irregularities, swelling,
pain, scarring, skin discoloration, sensation of arm tightness, and
asymmetry.
Frequently
Asked
Questions on Arm Lift
Q: How prominent
will
the scars be?
A: Only the
location of
the scar is definite based on the incision
made. However, the color, thickness, and intensity of the scar are all
unpredictable due to the variation of each patient’s skin
tone
and ethnicity.
Q: Should Brachioplasty
be
combined with Liposuction?
A: Liposuction is
not an
essential part of an Arm
Tuck.
However, some plastic surgeons use it as a way of dissecting and
separating the deep tissues from the skin flaps. It is not necessary
that a liposuction is needed when an Arm
Lift
is done.
Q: When will I see
the
results of my Arm Lift?
A: Evident results
are
seen as soon as your plastic surgeon
changes
your dressing after the cosmetic surgery although at this time scars
are still fresh and prominent. It will take about 6 to 12 months before
these scars settle and gradually fade.
